Paul ColleyShare

This guide breaks down the features that matter most for Australian families, seniors, carers, and explains why Lifeframe™, powered by the official Frameo software, has become one of the most trusted digital photo frames in Australia.

11. FAQ.
1. Ease of Use: The Software Matters Most
Most of our photos now live on our phones, so the easiest way to send memories to a digital photo frame is directly from a mobile app. This means the software and app behind the frame are the most important features of all.
All Lifeframe™ Digital Photo Frames are powered by the latest official Frameo software, the world’s most trusted digital photo frame platform. Frameo has 4.9 stars from 266,000+ reviews, making it one of the highest-rated apps globally.
Lifeframe™ was also the first official Frameo partner in Australia, and HOMELife remains the longest-standing Frameo partner in the country. No one knows Frameo in Australia better than we do.
What to watch out for
Many frames online use imitation software that looks like Frameo but isn’t. These “look-alike” apps often have poor stability, outdated design and questionable privacy and unpredictable updates (if any).
With Lifeframe™, you are guaranteed the latest genuine Frameo software.
Multi-User & Multi-Frame Sharing
One of the biggest benefits of Frameo digital photo frames is multi-user support. With Lifeframe™:

- Unlimited family and friends can send photos to your frame
- You can connect your app to multiple frames at once
- When sending photos, simply tick the frames you want to send to.
This makes Lifeframe™ ideal for:
- Families living apart
- Grandparents
- Shared households
- Aged care and home care providers
2. Sharing Photos
If sending photos isn’t easy and fun, you won’t do it. We already know that the Frameo App makes it super easy to share photos to your Digital Photo Frame, but what if your photos are on a computer or even prints, in a traditional photo album?
Importing photos from a computer
Every Lifeframe™ includes a full-size USB port, allowing you to:
- Import photos from a USB stick
- Play photos directly from the stick
- Back up your entire frame to USB (this can be scheduled to happen automatically)
So, you simply copy the photos you want to a USB stick from your computer, plug it into the back of your Lifeframe™, and press import or play. It’s that easy!

Importing photos from a traditional printed photo album
This is actually much easier than you might think. Historically, you would need to remove the photos from the album (hoping not to ruin them in the process), scan them, touch them up etc… Not anymore, simply install the “PhotoScan” App by google on your smart phone (available for Android and Apple phones), use it to take photos of your original photos, and send them to the frame using the Frameo App. It's super easy to do, and the results will astonish you. They’ll typically look better than the original photo. See it in action below.
What to watch out for
Many frames, including some frames that use Frameo, do not include a standard USB port, or the USB port is consumed by the power supply, making importing or backing up photos extremely difficult, if not impossible. Always make sure your frame has a standard USB port.
3. What About Videos?
You can easily send videos to a Lifeframe™ using the Frameo app. Simply select the video on your phone, choose your favourite 15-second moment, and send, just like a photo.
It is best to keep your videos short. It isn’t a TV, it’s a photo frame to display precious moments and a 15 second video, is the perfect length for that.
That said, if you really want to display longer videos, there are two options.
1. Use a USB stick
- Import or play longer videos without limits (only limited by the storage capacity).
2. Frameo+ subscription (optional)
- Extends video length up to 2 minutes
- Approx. AU$3/month or AU$26/year
Tip: Digital photo frames are designed to show short moments, not long home movies. Shorter videos are more enjoyable and engaging for seniors and visitors.
4. What Screen Size Should I Choose?
OK, this one really comes down to personal preference and budget, but there are a few useful rules of thumb that may help.
- The further the distance you will be viewing the frame from, the larger the ideal frame size.
- The bigger the room the frame will be in, the bigger the ideal screen size.
- If someone has poor vision, the larger the ideal screen size.
So, some helpful examples:
- For a bed side table or office desk: 8” is typically a suitable size.
- For a bedroom or sitting room, 10.1” would be the smallest size to consider.
- For general living space, a 15.6” frame is ideal.
Larger Digital Photo Frames such as 21.5" are also available, but be warned, they are very big physically and typically dominate the room they are in. So you need a very large room/space for them to work best in. They also need to be higher resolution, to ensure a quality image (see below).
A note about screen size measurements. All digital screens are measured diagonally from corner to corner. This is standard practice for all screen types, TV, Phones, Tablets etc. So when you read 15.6” Digital Photo Frame, this refers to the screen size from corner to diagonal corner. It does not include the bezel or dress frame area, it is the display area of the screen.
What about the screen resolution?
This is a common question. The important factor to consider is the screen pixel density (measured in pixels per inch - ppi), more than the screen resolution, as even with 20/20 vision, the eye cannot resolve additional detail beyond a certain pixel density.
Below are resolutions and ppi of most common digital photo frames. The green ones are good pixel densities.
We would recommend avoiding the size/resolution combinations in red, as the pixels will be noticeable, detracting from the photo quality.
✔ 8" Screen at 1080 x 800 = 168ppi
✔ 10.1" Screen at 1080 x 800 = 133ppi
X 15.6" Screen at 1080 x 800 = 86ppi
✔ 15.6" Screen at 1920 x 1080 = 141ppi
X 21.5" Screen at 1920 x 1080 = 102ppi
TIP: If you are not sure about screen size, we would always recommend the largest screen size you can afford/fit. It is a very common situation for customers to love the frame, but wish they had bought the larger one. Just scan our reviews, and you’ll see what I mean.
5. How Much Storage Do I Need?
Storage can be confusing because the advertised storage (the built-in storage) is not the same as usable storage.
Every digital photo frame reserves space for the operating system, the frames app and system files. This usually uses around 4GB, so usable storage is always less than advertised.
Typical usable storage:
| Total Storage | Usable Storage |
|---|---|
| 8GB | ~4GB |
| 16GB | ~12GB |
| 32GB | ~28GB |
What to watch out for
Many digital photo frames cut costs by reducing the built in memory capacity. Many popular frames only have 4GB or less of usable storage.
For peace of mind, all Lifeframe™ models include 32GB built-in (28GB usable). That’s:
- Up to 7× more usable storage than an 8GB frame.
- Almost 2.5× more than a 16GB frame
- Enough space for years of photos and videos
6. Which Type of Wi-Fi?
Good news:
You don’t need to worry about Wi-Fi types.
All digital photo frames, including Lifeframe™, support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, which is:
- The most common
- Has the best range (distance) coverage
-
Most stable for frames placed in bedrooms, kitchens and living areas
Some Lifeframe™ models (like the 15.6”) also support dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz + 5GHz), but we recommend connecting to 2.4GHz for stability.
What if your loved one doesn't have WiFi? All Lifeframe's will operate standalone without Wifi. You can either load photos using a USB stick, or you can connect it to your phones HotSpot when you visit. (it will auto-connect after the first time) and any photos previously, will have been queued on the senders phone, and will come through once the frame is detected online.
7. What About Privacy?
Privacy is essential when sharing family memories. As an Official Frameo Partner, Lifeframe™ uses Frameo’s world-class security, including:
- End-to-end encryption (your photos are encrypted before leaving your phone)
- No cloud storage unless you optionally choose Frameo+ backup
- GDPR, PSTI, CCPA and Intertek Cyber Assured certifications
This is one of the safest photo-sharing systems available.
What to watch out for
Some frames:
- Store photos in unknown cloud services
- Use outdated apps with no security updates
- Allow email-to-frame uploads (which can be abused by spammers or anyone with the email address)
-
Offer no device pairing or authentication
With Lifeframe™ you get:
- The genuine Frameo digital photo frame software.
- Latest Frameo version
- Local Australian HOMELife support
- Secure photo sharing designed for seniors, carers and families

8. Hidden Subscription Costs
Many digital photo frames lock essential features behind a subscription. We believe core features should always be free.
There are many different photo frames and services. Below is a comparison between Lifeframe™ and another common frame, Skylight Frame, so you can easily see the difference and what to watch out for.
Lifeframe™ vs Skylight Frame — Key Free Features
| Feature | Lifeframe | Skylight (US$49 per year) |
|---|---|---|
| Send photos | FREE | Subscription required |
| Send videos | FREE (15 sec) | Subscription required |
| Add captions | FREE | Subscription required |
| Create albums | FREE | Subscription required |
| Local back-up | FREE (USB) | Subscription required |
Ongoing subscriptions accumulate and will often end up costing more than the frame itself.
Lifeframe™ includes everything most families need, with no subscription required.
Frameo+ is completely optional and only for people wanting:
- Longer video sending
- Cloud backup
- Google Cast
- Larger upload batches
